Latest statistics on Mobile Number portablility and Inferences

It has been like five months since the launch of mobile number
portability in india. This had been a dreaded word for mobile
operators across the country raking in shameless profits and offering
poor service. As of now these are the latest statistics in mobile
number portability

Vodafone
127.36 488,250 0.38

2) Idea 84.29 391,191 0.46

3) Bharti Airtel 155.80 530,615 0.34

4) Aircel 51.83 162,664 0.31

5) Uninor 20.31 31,019 0.15

6) Videocon 6.01 5,404 0.09

7) MTNL 5.43 3,793 0.07

8 ) TTSL 86.05 197,404 0.23

9) BSNL 88.82 107,724 0.12

10) Reliance 128.87 44,753 0.03
These numbers reflect the total number opting in and porting out. The
biggest gainer being Vodafone followed closely by Idea. As I can
remember Idea still places advertisements regarding its excellent
towers and voice quality. Vodafone as per me is great when it comes to
signal strength, even the remotest places have a Vodafone tower and
awesome signal. But Vodafone in its initial days placed no importance
on gprs plans. It was only a year back they launched 95 rupees data
plan. And it is next to impossible finding hacks and loopholes in
Vodafone. The largest number of porting requests were received by
Airtel and the largest number of porting out requests too ironically.
As far as I can see and understand about Airtel, it seems to be an
unethical player in the lot. Since time immemorial Airtel has
loopholes for free gprs usage. Even now, since the time of mobile
number portability, instead of heavy advertisements, there were heavy
tricks coming out each day. Using modded applications and free ports
and ssl sites one can use gprs without spending a single penny.
Instead of shelling out lakhs in advertisements they played it cheap.
I am not sure but the mother of all tricks and hacks has attracted
quite a big number due to this cheap play. A large number of forums
and blogs nay even this one inadvertently advertises Airtel. Reliance
too has a many hacks with the biggest one being the 99 pack hack which
does not work now. But on the other hand it has been a big loser due
to the cdma connections. I do not know but I cannot entirely believe
that its the operators being fooled but us. Tata docomo in its initial foray to the Indian market did what Airtel did earlier. Free gprs when the balance was low, no proxy, no handler, no complicated things to do. Maybe another gimmick to grow into a strong presence. Today there are tricks which have been going on for 1 year using proxy and such trick settings in tata docomo. Vodafone has now started concentrating on gprs maybe due to the enormous potential in 3g services. Five super weeks presented free gprs in various forms and the last and best being the free internet for a week offer. There were other forms of airtel's sly dexterity. Immediately on sending porting request you got an sms saying call reduction offers have been activated on your number for 3 months in the initial days following mnp. However I do not care as
long as its free!
